Orthokeratology
Wouldnít it be great to wake up with clear
vision without resorting to permanent refractive surgery
correction (LASIK)?
Orthokeratology can correct your vision while you sleep.
How does it work?
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a reversible
procedure that uses a gas permeable contact lens to correct
your vision. The lenses are worn at night, while you sleep.
They gently reshape your eyes so that you can see clearly
even after you remove the lenses the next morning.
How long does it last?
The effect is temporary ñ it lasts throughout
the day, but the lenses must be worn each night to retain
the vision.
The good news is that it is completely
reversible and adjustable (unlike most surgical procedures).
If the vision is not perfect, changes can be made pretty
easily.
For this reason, Ortho-K is suitable for many
people who are not candidates of refractive surgery such as
teens and those who do not have a stable prescription.
Who is a Candidate?
Ortho-K works best with prescriptions from
-1.00 to -6.00. Results vary from person to person. Success
depends on your prescription and the overall thickness of
the cornea (the tissue on the front of your eyes). Some are
able to attain better results than others.
How long does it take to achieve the
results?
Most patients notice a difference overnight;
however, it can take up to a week or two to obtain the full
correction. The more days the lenses are worn, the more
stable the prescription becomes.
